Nowadays, Maria Macia cattle has about 20.000 animals, which are in constant selection process.

The group aims at the standardization of lots concerning age, sex, weight and body structure. All of the animals are bought from suppliers and partners specialized in the production of calves. At the purchase moment, the animals genetics (what is the industrial crossing), age and sanity are checked. The animals’ health is priority, a reflection of the strict control carried out by means of vaccination, vermifugation and the cares in handling, avoiding any kind of contusion.

The nutritional management is also differentiated. All of the selected animals are basically fed with green pasture and grains. From November to April they keep rotating in manured pastures, which are intensively managed. In other words, small areas maintain a great number of animals that, even with a lot of animals, can gain excellent weight, speeding up their fattening. That is the reason for the precocity, tenderness and nutritional value.
